State Mandated Expectations, Objectives, & Assessments
The following lessons have been created by myself and are from a larger thematic unit entitled, Exploring the Needs of Animals and Humans. The unit encompasses a variety of subject areas and these lessons include some math, science, and social studies lessons.
State Mandated Content Expectations: (The expectations are bolded according to which parts of the expectations are covered in the unit.)
K.CC.6
Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal tothe number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies. (Include groups with up to ten objects.)
K.OA.2
Solve addition and subtractionword problems, andaddand subtractwithin 10, e.g., byusing objects or drawingsto represent the problem.
RL.K.1
With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
K-ESS3-1
Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants or animals (including humans) and the places they live.
K – G5.0.1
Describe ways people use the environment to meet human needs and wants (e.g., food, shelter, clothing).
Objectives:
The student will identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than or equal to the number of objects in another group reaching proficiency by scoring a 3/5 on the Hungry Alligator Rubric.
The student will solve addition word problems within 10 using objects and drawings to represent the problem, demonstrating proficiency by scoring a 2/3 based on the attached rubric for the It Adds Up! worksheet.
The student will answer questions about the key details in The Lorax reaching proficiency by earning a 2/3 on the Responding with Drawings Rubric.
The student will use a model to represent the needs of animals in the places they live by visiting an ecosystem with their animal and deciding whether or not their animal could live there, reaching proficiency by earning a 2/3 on the attached rubric.
The student will describe ways people use the environment to meet human needs and wants by creating either a skit, story, or picture, reaching proficiency by scoring a 2 out of 5 on the attached rubric.
